The SFI-Project – under the guidance of the a consortium, consisting of Unique land use GmbH and IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH – has reached major achievements with regard to overcome damages and losses of inventory equipment, required for the implementation of a remote sensing based forest inventory (RS-Inventory). Taking into account limited access to forests due to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine as well as shortages in state funds for a terrestrial NFI, the RS-Inventory is expected to provide insides about major forestry parameters on all Ukrainian forests.
Based on a request by State Forest Management Planning Association (Ukrderschlisproject) the following items have been procured: 3 off-road vehicle 4×4, 2 GPS receivers, 3 notebooks, 5 sets of Field Map for inventory data collection and processing as well as 3 charging station with solar panel for inventory field work.
On the occasion of the handover, Frank Müller, Agricultural Attaché of the German Embassy in Kyiv, stated that this equipment enables Ukrainian partners to collect terrestrial data as well as to carry out and evaluate additional methods such as remote-sensing-based inventory methods as part of the National Forest Inventory in Ukraine.
